A cake, especially a coffee and chocolate one, is made to highlight what’s to be celebrated. Today I have no hesitation in offering you this delicious Milanese espresso cake because you can never have enough chocolate cake recipes in your personal repertoire. I really like the purity and simplicity of this one.

First, here is the list of the different ingredients you will need to prepare this Milanese Cake with Expresso that serves 6 to 8 people

  • 250g or 1 1/4 cup walnuts
  • 250g or 1 1/4 cup flour + 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 125g or 1/2 cup and 1/2 tsp softened butter
  • 200g or 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large free-range eggs
  • 150ml or 2/3 cup cold espresso
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Now, here are the few steps you will have to follow to make this Milanese Cake with Expresso with a 20 minutes preparation time and a 55 to 60 minutes cooking time

Finely chop the walnuts in a food processor or with a large knife. In a large bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Cream the butter with the sugar until light and fluffy, then add the eggs one at a time.

Gradually incorporate the flour and baking powder into the egg custard, followed by the chopped walnuts.

Grease well a 26 cm (10-inch) ø springform pan, dust it with flour, and pour off any excess flour. Pour the batter into the pan, smooth it out, and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 1 hour.

Prick the cake with a wooden stick to check if it’s cooked through. Remove the cake from the oven, let it cool briefly in the pan, then remove from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack.

Serve with chocolate shavings and a nice coffee of hot chocolate !
